Dental Implants

What is a dental implant?

Implants are small screws that are inserted into the dental bone of the maxilla or mandible, in order to replace the root of a tooth that, for various reasons, has been lost.

After insertion, a crown or prosthesis is placed that provides aesthetics and functionality.

This is a solution that offers very positive and long-lasting results in the long term, since a well-cared for implant can last a lifetime and acts like a real tooth.

All about 6 implants

All-on-6 treatment was designed for immediate use. This procedure is used to replace the entire set of upper or lower teeth.

All about 4 implants

The term Dental Implants, refers to all teeth undergoing four dental implants. A surgical and technical prosthetic procedure for the total rehabilitation of the patient without teeth. Or for patients with severely damaged, decayed or compromised teeth due to gum disease. The all-On-4 procedure involves the use of an acrylic denture built around a titanium framework.

Diagnosis

At the first appointment, a clinical and radiographic analysis is carried out, accompanied by a panoramic X-ray. An anamnesis is taken to determine whether the patient is a candidate for this procedure or whether he or she might need to consult with another medical department.

1) The surgical stage, which is where the implant is actually placed.

2) Rehabilitation stage: this is where the placement of attachments to make the crowns or dentures is carried out in several appointments.

Implants are meant to be a permanent dental solution. They can last 20 years or more with proper care. The long-term success rate related to implants after 10 years is more than 94 percent, according to some scientific studies.

  • Stability, even with minimal bone volume.
  • Good clinical results.
  • Planning with the surgical template.
  • Prosthetic flexibility: fixed bridge-shaped prostheses and removable solutions on implant bars for overdentures.

The work time during the surgery stage will depend on whether another type of surgery has to be done or included before or after the placement of the implants. If this is not the case and it is only a matter of placing the implants, the approximate time for all-on-four is 1 to 2 hours and it can also be performed with sedation.

The waiting time to complete the work in the rehabilitation stage refers to the osseointegration of the implant-bone; it varies approximately according to the type of bone and would be between 3 to 5 months.
